Wanjiru Njendu is an award-winning Kenyan-American director based in Los Angeles. Her creative imagination earned her the nickname 'Magic' at a young age. Her African and American upbringing influences her approach as a writer and director for film and television enabling her to have a versatile voice in both African stories and Western stories. This versatility led to her being chosen as a fellow in the Producer's Guild of America Diversity workshop. Wanjiru's film credits include several award-winning short films which have played in over 100 film festivals. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). Her short film Boxed has been accepted into over 100 film festivals with numerous nominations and wins. Boxed had qualified and was submitted FYC for the 2020 Academy Awards for Best Short Film- Live Action. Boxed won Best Short film at Hague Global Cinema Film Festival and as well as Best Diaspora short film at The 2020 African Movie Academy Awards. For 2021, Boxed has been selected by the Acadmie des Cesar for their Nuits en Or program taking place in summer 2021. Wanjiru's short documentary film Safari ya Jamhuri: The Journey to freedom was used to provide evidence for a lawsuit against the British Government by the MAU MAU colonial war survivors from Kenya. Wanjiru was the shadowing director on the Netflix series "Daybreak" under Mark Tonderai. She recently directed a horror short film, Stray that was acquired by 20th Digital Studios for Hulu, Freeform, FX and premiered at the Cannes Series Film Festival in Fall 2020. She is developing several film and television projects as well as a documentary about a children's S.T.E.M (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) organization in Kenya.

Her desire to tell compelling stories with a message of hope and change, giving a voice to those who haven't had one, is that it finally comes out and allows people who didn't know to understand and have more cultural sensitivity and support. Films cross the boundaries of race and gender and social issues that's why she wants to do this all the time. Her show in development is her compelling series of Eco-renovations for veterans which truly gives veterans the opportunity at a more stable, sustainable living environment. Words of advice Wanna gives to anyone pursuing a career in this industry is to stay true to what inspires you, what drives you and what you are passionate about telling and sharing. Don't give up and no matter how hard it may seem keep trying to improve your skills and study. This path takes study and experience. If this is your passion and you feel pressed to do this then don't stop until you achieve it. Wanna wants to be a role model for women and an example for her culture. She advises "that every chance you get, is an opportunity to be greater and have more exposure to things you want to experience." Wanna worked with Academy Award-Winning actor, Wes Studi in a Native American short film, 'Saynday.' she is the Co-Executive Producer for "Apache Junction", Associate Producer for "Out of Exile", with Emmy-winning filmmaker Kyle Kauwika Harris, Executive Producer for 'Midnight Shanghai the Movie.' Producer for 'Paranormal Investigators' and 'Shifters'. She wrote, directed and produced 'Operation Eco-Renovation' in 2015.
