Ted Adams
The son of vaudeville performers, Richard Theodore "Ted" Adams was part of his parents' troupe before attending Cornell University at the age of 18. After college he did stock work for three years before going to New York City and stage work there. For more than half his life he performed on the stage before coming to films around 1926. He and his good friend Leo Carrillo performed together in Porter Emerson Browne's play "The Bad Man" in 1920, and Adams was also in the Broadway production of "Kongo", which starred Walter Huston, in 1926. His earliest documented film role was as the doctor in Rayart's The Road Agent (1925), starring Al Hoxie, and he made his sound-film debut in 1930's Under Texas Skies (1930), starring Bob Custer. Adams quickly established himself in westerns, in which he worked almost exclusively for 25 years in over 200 films. He was a mainstay performer (mostly lead villains) for the low-budget films cranked out by independents such as Supreme, Metropolitan, Puritan, Colony and Victory in the 1930s and PRC and Monogram in the 1940s, in addition to appearing in films from Republic, Columbia, Paramount and Universal. Following a role in Bill Elliott's Kansas Territory (1952) for Monogram Pictures, and some TV work on Russell Hayden's Cowboy G-Men (1952) TV series, Ted Adams hung up his spurs at the age of 62. He lived quietly in retirement until his death from heart disease at the age of 83. Widowed at the time of his death, September 24, 1973, he was at Braewood Convalescence Hospital in South Pasadena, his place of residence prior to his death. His cremated remains were place at Chapel of the Pines Cemetary in Los Angeles.

Since 1997, Ted has been a contributing editor to Esquire magazine, where he writes about food, wine, style and everything else the American man needs to know. He was a finalist for a National Magazine Award for his Esquire feature on the little-known phenomenon of male breast cancer. Ted also writes for such publications as Bon Appetit, Epicurious and Food Network Magazine. Before joining Esquire, Ted was a senior editor and restaurant critic at Chicago magazine. Ted holds an M.A. in journalism from New York University, with an advanced certificate in the school's Science and Environmental Reporting Program, and a B.A. in psychology from Purdue University. He lives in Brooklyn with his longtime partner, Barry Rice.

The son of a nurse and an orthodontist, Ted received a BS from Norwich University and went on to Graduate School at Tufts University Dental School. While he was obtaining more science credits to get into dental school he taught junior high and high school biology. That was cut short when his power lifting talent was good enough to compete at a world class level. He became the first man to officially bench press 700 pounds and was later signed by the WWE and World Class Wrestling out of Texas.. After a brief 2 year stint he focused on raising his boy and immersed himself into film and TV acting. Now, the father of 2 boys and owning a fitness store, he regularly works between the Boston and NYC market.

He's a well accomplished Shakespearean actor. He's done "As You Like It" at the Du Maurier World Stage, "Much Ado About Nothing" at the Theater Calgary, "Richard III" & "All Well That Ends Well" at the Stratford Festival. Other major stage performances by Ted has been in "Death Of A Salesman" & "The Lion King", at the Royal Alexandra, "The Cryptogram", at the Tarragon Theater, "Hay Fever" at the Canadian Stage, & "The Last Comedy" at the Banff Centre. Ted graduated with honors, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in English & Drama from the University of Toronto. He also completed a 3 year Masters program at the Banff Centre.
