Raised by her mother, a former opera singer, Hong grew up around music and performance. In high school, Hong came to love acting through Riverside High School's speech and debate program, competing in Humorous, Dramatic, and Duo Interpretation at the local, regional, and national level. While attending Clemson University, Hong sang with Clemson University Singers, the school's classical choir, and with TakeNote, the school's all-female a cappella group.
