Soumyajit Majumdar is an actor-writer-director-producer and Founder-Director of LOK Arts Collective ( launched on Jan 3, 2010) - revered for pioneering the youth-in-arts movement in Kolkata. An alumni of St.Xavier's College,Kolkata ( Mass Communication and Videography) , #Homecoming ( Project selected during scripting stage and mentored at NFDC Producer's Lab @Film Bazaar 2019, Goa) is his first feature film as a writer-director-producer. Besides being an independent multi-disciplinary artist and artpreneur, he has acted in 25 varied feature films before taking a break to make #Homecoming,. Kanti's work as playwright and director has been produced by British Council, National Theatre Studio London, Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, National Theatre Scotland, HOME Manchester and Theatre Royal Plymouth. He was awarded Best Director at Thespo Theatre Festival X, Mumbai and performed lead roles in two feature films: Tasher Desh-The Land of Cards (dir: Q/2012/Netflix) and Madly Bangali (dir: Anjan Dutt/2010/Amazon Prime). Kanti was an Inlaks scholar at Royal College of Art in London, post which he founded a nightclub at The Yard Theatre curating over 250 nights in collaboration with Europe's progressive music outfits. In 2016, Kanti returned to India to write and produce a feature film Cat Sticks (MUBI) awarded a Grand Jury prize at Slamdance Film Festival 2019. The Daughter made between 2020/21 is his directorial debut in narrative cinema.
