Sophie Marceau was born Sophie Danièle Sylvie Maupu in Paris, France, to Simone (Morisset), a shop assistant, and Benoît Maupu, a truck driver. She grew up far from the studio spotlights. Sophie McIntosh was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. She began dancing at the age of three and trained in classical ballet, contemporary dance and jazz throughout her childhood, performing and competing both nationally and internationally. In 2012 she was awarded 4th place at the National Young Performer of the Year Award, and was a semi-finalist at the Genee International Ballet Competition. After graduating from the Philippa Campbell School of Ballet in 2013, Sophie received a full scholarship to spend the summer at the Joffrey Ballet School in Manhattan, New York where she was later offered a place as a full-time classical student.
