Patrick got the acting bug when he took an elective course in Drama during his first year at Queen's University. He changed his major and graduated with a BA in Drama. He spent a brief time living in Banff then moved to Vancouver to begin his acting career. After a few years, he felt that he wanted more training, so he went to study in the UK at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) and completed a one-year post-graduate diploma in Classical Theatre.
