Prior to his feature debut as a writer-director Bill worked steadily as a stand up comedian and actor. After cutting his teeth in the New York City and Los Angeles club scenes Bill headlined regularly in comedy clubs all across the country. Bill studied acting in New York with Stella Adler and Jack Garfein. As an actor he appeared in numerous productions on the New York Stage. Most memorable for Bill was when he appeared opposite comedy legend and mentor, Milton Berle, in "Goodnight, Grandpa." Upon his arrival on the west coast Bill guest starred in a wide spectrum of episodic TV shows which include "Six Feet Under," "E.R.", "24", "L.A. Law", "Married with Children", "thirtysomethng" and "Matlock" to name a few. He also appeared in the feature films, "Lethal Weapon" , "The Rhunestone", "Loverboy" and in his own movie, "The Souler Opposite". In recent years Bill has devoted much of his time to writing. In addition to "The Souler Opposite" Bill has seven other screenplays which he hopes to direct. He is also President and founder of Buffalo Jump Productions. Bill is a refugee from the San Fernando Valley. He graduated from U.C. Berkeley and attended N.Y.U. Grad Film school. On the weekends the best place to find him is surfing the waves of Malibu.
Growing up North of New York City in the 1960's, Bill Kates immersed himself in acting, sound and music at an early age, taking on tape recording as a hobby before he was five, and studying classical and jazz music- piano, trombone, harmonica, sousaphone, and singing- shortly after entering kindergarten. His first professional recording was at age 6 with electronic music pioneer Bruce Haack. Bill now resides in Hollywood, where he creates sound design for film, television, games and apps, creates and performs comedy, studies acting, and creates original music. American director Bill Kiely has spent his adult career telling stories. A graduate of the Art Center in Pasadena's film program, Bill founded Windowseat Pictures in Venice Beach (2003) and has directed commercial and documentary projects for brands such as Nike, USAF, Bud Light, and Vans. Age of Summer, which he co-wrote, is Bill's feature directorial debut. The film has been completed and will screen in September 2018. Bill is producing the Huey Lewis jukebox musical "The Heart of Rock and Roll" that will premiere at The Old Globe in San Diego in September 2018. Bill has produced a number of films under the Windowseat banner including The Bachelors starring J.K.
